Epic 8-hour gathering on Election Day will combine vigilance against Trump and the resilience of DC culture
Washington D.C., October 28 – Thousands will gather at Black Lives Matter Plaza on Election Day, in part to stand guard against the threat that Trump will try to claim the U.S. presidency before the votes have been counted.
WHAT: Thousands will gather on Election Day, starting a week of civil resistance to ensure Trump isn’t able to steal the 2020 Presidential Election. The epic 8-hour gathering on the 3rd will include a jumbotron projecting the election results, a stage, the local DC dance troupe Step Africa and other dance performances, three go-go bands, DJs and speeches.
WHO: ShutDownDC, in conjunction with over 10 other organizations, including 350 DC, Arm in Arm DC, Beautiful Trouble, Black Lives Matter DC, Casa Action, Continue to Serve, Democratic Socialists of America DMV, Extinction Rebellion DC, Long Live GoGo, The Palm Collective, Rising Tide North America, Spaces in Action, and Sunrise Movement DC.
WHEN: Tuesday, November 3rd starting at 4:00 PM
WHERE: Black Lives Matter Plaza, 16th St NW & H St NW
WHY: Like many, DC residents are very concerned that Trump is going to try to steal this election. Trump has already cheated, intimidated, and confused the democratic process, on top of outright saying he won’t accept defeat. This direct action focused, DC-based collection of groups and individuals, is uniquely poised to address this threat to democracy. ShutDownDC is preparing for the worst; the group has scaled up a citizen mobilization to be able to respond quickly to the Trump administration’s attempts to disrupt the vote count in the days following November 3rd.
