Organizing Update - 39 days to go, no time to wait
We’ve got 39 days until the election and there is no time to wait! Here’s a quick recap of our meeting and with links to materials and details on next steps.
If you missed the meeting, you can see the slide deck from the meeting here, but here are the most important updates:
Every day it seems like the Trump Administration is finding new ways to undermine democracy and try to steal the election. To start to wrap our heads around the possibilities and how we might respond we’re organizing “Timeline to a Meltdown” election simulations. In each session participants are organized into different groups that represent organizations in the political landscape. We introduce a handful of very likely scenarios and each group tries to come up with an action plan to respond to that possibility. Our next Timeline to a Meltdown session is this Thursday at 7pm eastern. The scenarios and teams change each game so if you’ve already participated feel free to join us again!
This fall we’re organizing ourselves into small groups called affinity groups to take action together so we can be safe and effective in the streets. Join us for a Street Smarts and Direct Action training this Friday, October 2 at 6pm to learn more about affinity groups and meet other people who are planning on taking action this fall.
Over the next several months, lots and lots of people who have never taken action before are going to head into the streets. One way we can support people in taking that first step is by offering training on how to be safe and effective in the streets. But to offer trainings at the scale that we need, we need more experienced trainers. To help make that happen we are hosting a Training of Trainers the weekend of October 2-4. If you’re interested please fill out this application ASAP. There are a limited number of stipends available for new trainers who can commit the time to this program.
If you want to help us make the mobilization we’re planning this fall happen but you don’t know quite how to plug in, fill out this quick form to let us know about what skills and experiences you have and how you’d like to plug in!
Organizing a mobilization at this scale takes resources and we don’t have a super PAC or corporate sponsor bankrolling us. We’re funded mostly by donations from supporters like you. If you’re able, please consider making a donation. A little bit really goes a long way… and a lot would go a really long way!
Stay healthy and stay safe. Save the date for our next open organizing meeting on Thursday, October 8 at 6pm.
In solidarity,
#ShutDownDC
