DEFEND DEMOCRACY:: ART for the WIN!
PUBLIC CALL to help with Postering/ Chalking/ Bannering DC in advance of January 6th and Trump supporters coming to town to challenge the Electoral College vote.
Trump supporters continue to be a physical and existential threat to people and our (fragile) democracy.
We need a way to challenge their beliefs and actions, and make them look marginalized, dangerous , un-American, anti-Democratic, and mean.
We need ways to respond that promotes solutions, keeps folks safe(r) and offers a way for involvement for a diversity of progressive allies who want to take action, especially those at greater risk from engagement.
Choosing this street art in this moment:
Sets up a ‘dilemma action’ -- if MAGAts tear down our art, they look ridiculous and mean; if they leave the art up, our messages stay out. We win either way.
Provides a safe(r) dispersed action to do in comparison to a concentrated event (rally, blockade, etc) where the MAGAts can easily find us, disrupt/engage in dangerous ways, and harm folks coming and going from these public events easily. (we don’t have the security infrastructure right now in our movement to keep everyone safe at these concentrated events or en route.)
Provides a clear way to challenge the white supremacist culture and actions while acknowledging our numbers, skills and on-going campaigns.
Offers focal points for destructive actions of the ProudBoys/others, potentially distracting from other locations ( Black Churches, BLM plaza, etc.)
PLEASE think about where you are posting, to limit risk to neighborhoods and maximize reaching the right people.
Near CapHill gov’t buildings or near corporate criminal offices would be nice
Perhaps Georgetown would like to host these images.
Maybe close by police stations.
Or nearby legal or financial institutions that fund many of the problems….. Wells Fargo, Chase, etc.
